Luminol has proven its effectiveness at the crime scene for more than half a century. This unmatched chemical formulation is the most effective method for locating minute traces of blood ”even after the crime scene has been cleaned up.
The advantages of using Luminol are numerous: it is non-destructive to subsequent DNA profiling; it is a relatively safe compound if used according to directions; and it is simple to mix and apply. But the luminescence caused by Luminol, when it comes into contact with blood, must be viewed in near-total darkness.
Luminol creates luminescence as it oxidizes the iron component of blood. Weak stains produce weak luminescence, so the darker the area, the easier it will be to view this phenomenon. This, however, makes it extremely difficult to see what you are doing or where you are spraying.
LumaVision is the answer to a CSI ™s dream! This little dynamo uses RED, not white light, and red light sharpens night vision. When using LumaVision , your eyes adjust to the darkness and when luminescence occurs, you see it immediately.
The next step is to photograph it. Set your tripod mounted camera over top of the luminescence, turn off the LumaVision , and snap away.
The LumaVision features 6 powerful Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) driven by 3 AA-type alkaline batteries. The light offers bright, medium and low intensity settings as well as fast, medium and slow strobe effect. A seventh LED provides low power yellow light. A single set of batteries offers 10-12 hours of continuous light at the bright setting.
